Even/Odd, explained
Even/Odd is a bet on one thing only: is the last digit of the price even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) or odd (1, 3, 5, 7, 9)? It's the cheapest contract Deriv offers, and the reason is simpler than any other digit contract on the platform.
How it works
Take a price like 1234.56. The last digit is 6, which is even. On Deriv's volatility indices that
digit is drawn independently and uniformly from 0–9, so it lands even almost exactly half the time and odd the other
half, with no drift toward either over a long enough sample.
Why the edge is simpler than it looks
Even/Odd pays about 1.95 against a fair 50/50 — a house edge of roughly 2.5%, half of what Deriv's other digit contracts cost. Rise/Fall carries the same 2.5% edge, but gets there through a tie case — the price can land exactly on the entry point and the contract just loses. Even/Odd has no equivalent. Every digit is definitively one or the other; there's no third outcome hiding in the mechanics. The entire 2.5% is just the gap between a fair 2.00 payout and the 1.95 you're actually quoted — plain and easy to check.
A high win rate is not the same as a good edge. Digit Differs wins 90% of the time and still costs 4.6%, because the payout shrinks to match. Even/Odd's 50% win rate looks worse on paper and costs less in practice. Full comparison of every digit contract →
Verify it yourself
Don't take the uniform-digit claim on faith. The digit analysis tool shows the live Even/Odd split on every synthetic market at once, and the backtester runs a chi-square uniformity test against 1,000 live ticks in the page. Both take under a minute and either confirms the number above or shows you exactly where it's wrong.
Which staking strategies suit it
A clean 50/50 and the cheapest edge on the platform make Even/Odd the natural fit for Martingale and 1-3-2-6 — both assume a roughly even chance per trade, and neither benefits from paying extra for a skewed win rate you don't need. It's what Speedbot runs out of the box, for the same reason.
